Orphans and widows

“Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.”

Why are there so many orphans and widows in the world? What good is it if a few churches in the US offer relief services to orphans and widows in other countries, but the corporations and policies of their own country continue to create more orphans and more widows?

Hundreds of thousands of men in India have committed suicide due to debt largely incurred to buy patented seed and chemicals sold by US-based transnational companies like Monsanto. Many have done so by drinking the poisons they have used on their plants.

Over the past 30 years about 1000 indigenous leaders have been assassinated in Brazil, trying to protect their families and communities from wealthy and powerful individuals or companies invading their lands, or deforesting or contaminating them.

It is estimated that 90% of the civilians killed in the Syrian war were killed by airstrikes, to which the US is largely responsible.
