Too often the messages of political activists are confused. Marching along with indigenous activists who are rightly trying to call attention to the very serious problem of violence and destruction perpetrated against their communities, their lands and the health of the planet, there have appeared certain LBGTQ activists. The latter not only strive to end discrimination and homophobia, which we should all strive to end, but they seek to normalize alternative sexualities and gender modification. By adding their banners to a demonstration for indigenous rights, they dilute or sabotage its message.
They frame their campaign as human rights struggle, while promoting a view of sexual morality totally at odds with Christianity as well as with other major religions. In effect, this is yet another attack on religion in general, and Christianity in particular. With the fanatical zeal of an abortion clinic bomber, they attack anyone who disagrees with their agenda as being a bigot, or even a supporter of hate crimes. This is as twisted as some right-wing media commentators framing peaceful environmental protestors as eco-terrorists.
The owners of a wedding cake store who try to live in integrity with their religious beliefs, regardless of financial impact, should be able to politely refuse to sell a cake for a gay wedding. As they should be able to refuse to make any cake they consider to be sexually immoral according to their religious beliefs.
I am not a Catholic but I think Pope Francis describes well the colonization of the mind of the mind behind the LGBTQ agenda. See Polish Bishops and Pope Francis Expose the Gender Identity Movement.
Why can most people only think in terms of simple dichotomies? The truth is complex, and neither right nor left. How did environmental concern get labelled a “left” issue? Everyone should be concerned about the health of their environment. The strategy of divide into left and right, then conquer, greatly weakens the struggle against the destruction of our planet.
